Video Game Arcades – An Investment, right?

Hands up, who has gone and ‘invested’ time, money and effort in video arcades when this was a trend? It was not as brightly-lit. Some of my favourite games include Samurai Showdown… My favourite character is Charlotte. Superspace Fortress Macross where I could go until the end with my partner in crime, Mr. V. Just need maybe RM1 at most. Haha. Yes, we were that good then.

Nowadays the kids have Molly Fantasy but… it’s very different lah. 20 sen was during my days. Later on this became 50 sen but I think in Molly Fantasy these days, it is probably RM4 per game. At RM4, in order to be good at it, you will probably need to invest like RM1,000…

Back then, we just needed RM10 to be already very good at it; lots of practice already. Haha. Even then, my pocket money was probably RM2. So playing is indeed a luxury and I may have to skip some proper meals too. The friend I played with was Mr. V who is now based in Singapore. Those were the days.

Rest, Recover and Happiness

It was tough being a student then. There’s the never-ending homework, there’s the few ‘amazing’ teachers, there are the many rules from parents and then there’s the final exam where everything depends on it! Fortunately for my children these days, most of these exams have been replaced by assessments. In other words, no fail or pass or excellent or average. It’s just whether you have a higher level of understanding and capability to demonstrate or you have a lower level of understanding and lower capability to demonstrate. Well, maybe less pressure this way?

So, back then, we needed this video game arcade to rest, recover and find happiness. Haha.

Sorry… my wife is looking at me right now… so I better not buy…. YET. Hahaha. Let’s wait for the right day. This may still happen. Really crazy if we have this at home and our friends come visiting, right?
