I was honoured to be invited to this prestigious event by the current president of FIABCI-Malaysia, Sr. Michael Geh. It was a grand occasion and someone told me that there were 1,300 people in the hall. I think property awards are an important benchmark for the industry. Let’s look at all the property award winners in the Malaysia Property Award 2019 below.

The awards presentation ceremony was graced by Yang Maha Mulia Che Puan Besar Kedah Hajah Haminah Binti Haji Hamidun of Kedah. Also present were FIABCI World president Mr. Walid Moussa.

FIABCI Malaysia President Sr. Michael Geh, in his opening remarks at the ceremony, congratulated the winners for their achievements and said the Award is the perfect platform to showcase the industry’s creative and innovative projects.

“The Malaysia Property AwardTM is a benchmark and driving force for the developers to continue to develop more creative and innovative projects that benefit the entire industry.”

He said all the projects submitted in the competition this year were outstanding and of high standard that are on par with overseas projects.

“To keep with the changing time, the Award organising committee has always been refining the assessment criteria and award categories. This year, we have added a new category, the Mixed-use Development Category, which catered for property developments that comprise three or more components of properties where these components are physically and functionally integrated with covered pedestrian connections to participate in the Award. For example, a development that blends residential, commercial, office, and retail use.”

He added that the number of overseas judges had been increased to four from the previous three to ensure the evaluation process is up to bar with international standard.

Geh said FIABCI Malaysia has embraced digital platform in its effort to reach out to members and non-members via social media to encourage more interaction between the organisation and its stakeholders.

He said smaller-sized developers should not be deterred from taking part in the competition thinking that their property developments may not stand a good chance because of their size.

“As far as the Malaysia Property AwardTM is concerned, size does not matter. What matters is the overall quality of the projects. This also applies to their company profile, it is not how strong or robust the company profile is, all you need is a good project that you think can qualify to win the Award,” he said.

Geh said the competition’s high score requirement is a benchmark to promote excellence and it should not deter and instead encourage developers to do better with their future projects.
