Defer HSR? Everything’s fine. There’s no FINE.

Defer HSR? Everything’s fine. There’s no FINE. Remember that one time when Malaysia asked for High Speed Rail KL – SG to be deferred? We asked for it to be deferred to May 31 2020? Then, we had to pay RM45 million. Yes, the date has just passed. There are no indication for cancellation yeah. If HSR is cancelled, the country asking for the cancellation will have to pay a compensation of RM500 million. Refer here for the earlier article yeah. Many reasons but one of it is because both sides would have spent some amount on preparation, so a compensation is needed.

Article in themalaysianreserve.com Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali announced that the second deferment of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) project until end of 2020 will not involve any compensation.

Azmin said, “If we can conclude the whole exercise within three to four months, certainly we will meet again.” As for the potential cost increase for the HSR, he said, “Certainly, the inflation rate will push the cost up, but the mandate given to us when we defer the project in 2018 was to look at the costing, the new alignment and the design again, so that we will be able to reduce the investment.”

This was what Singapore said on the FINAL EXTENSION.“We look forward to receiving Malaysia’s formal proposal on the changes to the HSR project soon, so that both sides can begin discussions immediately,” the republic’s Transport Ministry stated. Well, I think this should be the final extension already yeah. I personally think HSR is a catalytic project and that delay all the way to 2031 is just too long. Already that HSR line between China and Thailand is starting soon. Agreement to be signed in October 2020. Read here yeah. No other things to do for now except to wait for the meeting between both countries at the end of the year. Happy waiting to everyone.
