I really don’t like it when people say Ipoh is great for retirement. Why not Ipoh for a great life? Why not Ipoh for continuous enjoyment and relaxation? This is especially if what they have in their mind when it comes to retirement is just to sit around and well, doing nothing much. Well, if that’s what they have in their mind, perhaps can go to some other smaller towns instead? There are lots of those cities everywhere, need not just Perak yeah.
By the way, Ipoh is a CITY, okay? We even have an airport with international slights okay? Anyway, I read an article about retiring in Ipoh. The writer listed down 10 pretty good reasons. Please allow me to extend and expand a little on top of what she listed.
Article in freemalaysiatoday.com There was an article by Vivien Lian. I am very sure she’s from Ipoh. She listed 10 reasons to retire in Ipoh. It include the following:
- Tropical weather and lots of golf
- Multilingual skills of locals
- Good water quality
- Vast and vibrant choices of delicacies
- Low cost of living
- Slower pace of living
- Health facilities
- Ease of transport
- Natural attractions
Here’s that full article for reference yeah. Article in freemalaysiatoday.com
I think it’s important to also note the following awesomeness about Ipoh too.
Availability of quality home choices: Beyond just the usual landed properties which may not be that appealing to non-Ipohans because they are usually older and without facilities and lacking in security arrangements, Ipoh has luxury condominiums, gated & guarded homes and many serviced apartment choices too. In brief, there’s little need to lower expectations where home preferences are concerned.
Availability of very good sporting facilities: The quality of a city will have to depend on availability of sports facilities. Ipoh does not lack all these: olympic sized swimming pool, diving pool, quality squash, badminton courts and even a cycling velodrome, an indoor stadium and even a hockey stadium which hosts international hockey tournament every year! Seriously, how many towns / cities have all these?
Wide ranging travelling possibilities: Choosing between visiting Penang or Kuala Lumpur? Enjoying both is possible. Ipoh is right in the middle of Penang and Kuala Lumpur and is connected to both at 150km and 200km respectively. In other words, it’s 1.5 hours to Penang and 2 hours to Kuala Lumpur even if we were to drive at 110km per hour. This is definitely the best of both worlds. No need for either one, just choose Ipoh to have access to three at the same time.
I think there are a lot of advantages when it comes to Penang (where I stayed for 15 years) and Kuala Lumpur (where I have been staying for over 6 years now). However, if we are really deciding on a place to just be an Enjoyee (read here for what’s an enjoyee) , then Ipoh is indeed a very attractive choice. Happy loving Ipoh as much as I do. It’s definitely a place for me when I have decided that I needed to spend majority of my time enjoying instead of working like today.
