I have been to Taman Rimba Kiara a few times with my family. My kids love it. Perhaps the only issue is that it’s not easy to find parking during the peak periods when people are there for their morning exercise. I always wish we continue to have more green lungs instead of lesser. Thus, it is important for the authorities to always act with this in their mind; preservation of green lungs are important if we need continuous developments to accommodate more people due to urbanisation. There are definitely places where density could be increased and rezoning could be done but this is NOT applicable to every public space or neighbourhoods.
There was a meeting between the stakeholders in the Taman Rimba Kiara issue recently. The gazetting of the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 (KLCP 2020) was done without public consultation. Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad explained, “There is no point debating or consulting, because it is historical.” He explained, “Even though I have gazetted the KLCP 2020, it does not make everything stop. It does not make illegal things legal. The gazetting only shows the situation as it is. If there are any changes done, and if corruption is proven, they will still be detained and charged. Even, if the plan has already been gazetted.” He explained that without the plan being gazetted the previous government could do as they liked. Here’s a long article about this in FreeMalaysiaToday.
Khalid also explained that when the plan is not gazetted, there are ways in which corruption in DBKL and the ministry could happen. He shared, “They see a nice plot of land, and they want to build something. They see an open space, the developer offers money to take it up and rezone. The second way, is to change the plot ratio. That is another area. By gazetting, you put an end to this. Things can still happen, but it has to go through a very meticulous process. That is why I decided to gazette, even though it was (only updated until) 2015, and now is already 2018. We put a stop to this. What is still there, is still there. There is now a proposal for a joint committee to come to a solution for Taman RImba Kiara. The joint working committee would comprise representatives from the FT Ministry, DBKL, YWP, the TTDI Residents Association, Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents and Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
