I favour more connectivities between Johor (JB) and Singapore (SG). Both sides would benefit and it’s totally untrue that only one side will benefit (whichever side you want to look at it from). I went pass the immigration just 3 weeks ago, trust me, with better connectivity, less time is wasted and economic benefits will be huge. So, a third bridge is definitely welcomed (earlier article here), just as the RTS is compulsory too even if it will take a few more years. (earlier article here) As for the crooked bridge which received lots of attention many years ago, this is what DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong says. DAP is supportive of the idea of a third bridge to neighbouring Singapore, but that a crooked bridge as mooted by Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his first tenure as prime minister is not an “immediate priority”.
In brief, I think the crooked bridge would need more discussions and agreements between both sides. Remember that SG side was AGAINST the idea many years back though no one knows what they think of it today. He added, “We also think there is a need to speed up construction of the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System linking Singapore rail facilities to Johor,” he said, adding that travellators or moving walkways would help speed up travel as well. As for those who wants to know what our Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali’s comments, he said the crooked bridge project was a proposal by Johor Menteri Besar Osman Sapian, which had yet to be presented at the federal level. The article in Mkini here. Personally, today and in the future, it’s all about collaborations. The world is the oyster and ASEAN neighbours are team-mates. This is not just about the bridge yeah. This is about everything that will enhance the competitiveness of both nations because the ‘competition is out there.’ Fighting over a total market size of 40 million (Malaysia and Singapore) is really a funny notion and better be scrapped altogether. Last but not least, IF it has not even gone to the Federal side, perhaps just run it through first before any formal announcement? Happy following.
