Many sportsmen and sportswomen who have contributed to the nation have been conferred Datukships. I salute them. I think it’s very important that Datukships are only conferred to people who have contributed immensely to the nation. It does not need to be confined to only those who donate a lot to charities yeah.Anyone here buying a property because the CEO of the developer is a Dato’? I would say there are MANY of such choices. Or perhaps buying a property from a developer whose founder has a Tan Sri title would be better or perhaps safer in terms of completion? I think it’s more important to look at the quality of the finishing as well as the product that we are buying instead. After all, the founder or the CEO of the developer may not be staying in the development that we are buying anyway. I think conclusion is, Datukship is not even within a top ten consideration whether or not to buy a property?
Instead of developers, we move on to a news about a real estate agent. Reported in TheStar was about a 64-year old real estate agent being detained by the police for his connection to a fake letter offering a Selangor Datukship. The fake letter claimed to offer the Darjah dan Bintang Kebesaran Negeri Selangor honorific title which carries the title “Datuk” and also falsely claimed to be from the Selangor Council of the Royal Court secretary. It was reported that the Selangor Council of the Royal Court has never issued any offer letter for the Darjah dan Bintang Kebesaran Negeri Selangor honorific title to a person named Goh Boon Leong. Selangor Council of the Royal Court secretary, Hanafisah Jais said in a statement, “The fake letter also bears several false facts such as the wrong Selangor coat of arms as well as the false name and signature of the Selangor Council of the Royal Court secretary.”
One wonders why this real estate agent has that forged letter. Perhaps more would be revealed when the police completes their investigations. Last but not least, I also read an interesting article in mole.my entitled, ‘Five easy steps to get a Datukship in Malaysia.’ While the writer gave some ideas, he also gave many examples of Datos’ who became a criminal including one said to be a Dato’ but just 19 years old? He also said that it’s important that the quality of these persons conferred with such a title should be scrutinised closely. Last but not least, he also shared that it’s pretty hard to get state honours in Selangor. Out of 750 nominees, only 25 were selected to receive state honours. (Perhaps this was the reason why the fake letter was exposed? Happy following and waiting for the next announcement from the police on this ‘fake Datukship’ letter case. Cheers.
