New home in few months and not few years. Interested?

Building a new home in a few months instead of a few years. What’s the possibility of this happening here in Malaysia? Well, a Japanese Fortune 500 developer, Daiwa House Industry Co. Ltd (“Daiwa”) will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with Sunway Group (“Sunway) to undertake a study to examine the feasibility of selling and manufacturing pre-fabricated or industrialised housing in Malaysia. In fact, the very first showcase residential development may come true once a potential site is identified within the next 6 months.
Prefabricated housing is the manufacturing of houses or housing structures offsite in a factory environment before final installation onsite. In comparison to conventional construction methods, prefabrication promises to deliver benefits in terms of higher and more consistent product quality, reduction in delivery time, reduction in materials wastage, and better site management.
Besides the time needed, prefabrication meant less dependence on foreign labour, increased productivity, quality and safety. Daiwa has delivered over 1.5 million prefabricated homes in Japan and has also completed a prefabricated house prototype in Sunway Eastwood in Selangor, Malaysia. The 3-storey bungalow prototype, with a built-up area of 3,968 square feet, was completed within a short five months. Amazing yeah?
Personally, I am not sure how much cost savings can this bring but if the processes are ‘manufactured’ instead of built, you will see a good savings because labour costs can only increase, especially during boom periods, the costs go up even higher and the quality may suffer. I think I will drop by to take a look.
