Penang properties – Tanjung Tokong

I stayed for a few years in Tanjung Bungah when I was still working in Menara Boustead ( formerly PSCI). I stayed in Leader Garden. In fact that was the very first time I stayed in a condo because before that, I used to rent a room along the huge houses in Barrack Road. I loved condo from then onwards. I was able to enjoy the facilities, including playing tennis, squash and even swimming pool. It was also convenient enough because I can just walk out of the condo, go down the hill and I would have restaurants, mini market and even buy vegetables. During the weekends, I can drive for less than 20 minutes to reach Ferringhi beach. Alternatively, 20 minutes to Gurney Mall. Life’s good. 🙂  That was then. Today, jams have started.
If we compare Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong, I would like Tanjung Tokong slightly more than Tanjung Bungah though I understand there are more richer people staying in Tanjung Bungah. My reasons are ‘distance’ and ‘time’. Tanjung Tokong is even nearer to Gurney Mall and Georgetown when compared to Tanjung Bungah. Thus, the time needed to travel there is even lower compared to Tanjung Bungah.
Secondly would be potential appreciation. With the reclamation, more projects would be launched and thus prices would continue to hit new benchmarks. It will bring up prices in both Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong. When you buy at a matured area, the price increase would be more stable, gradual and perhaps slow. However, when new projects continue to be launched, prices of all existing projects nearby would naturally move up. One caveat, ‘only if jams are manageable’. Imagine too many developments and every time you go out, you need to be jammed for 40 minutes?
Besides all the reasons above, I give you one more new reason. Lifestyle. I can visit Straits Quay mall and even Tesco hypermarket and its just few minutes away. These are conveniences which appeals to a lot of working adults because after work, they can drop by for happy hour in the mall and then buy groceries at Tesco before going home. On weekends, they can have lunch at Precint 10 followed by a shopping at the nearby Gurney Mall or Paragon Mall. If their friends come visiting, they can bring them for seafood nearby and visit Ferringhi night markets.
Tanjung Tokong actually has nearly everything you need including even banks and famous western food, chicken rice, a small departmental store and lots of other eateries. Though considered a mature neighbourhood, it has lots more potential to grow and majority of Penangites I know prefers this part of Penang compared to the Sungai Ara / Bayan Baru area. Oh yeah, one of the best Starbucks with a open and relaxing environment is also in Tanjung Tokong.
Don’t wonder or wander any further. If your office is not too far away, Tanjung Bungah may be a good choice.
